“One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, a the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water’s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.”
-Luke 5:1-3 (NIV)
Dear Hilldale Family,
Wasn’t Easter Sunday glorious? The Sunrise Service at Tanglewood was in such a peaceful setting and the weather was so beautiful. It was so refreshing to see so many people filling the sanctuary—hundreds of worshippers in addition to the choir and staff. It made me think of the above scripture where the people coming to see Jesus speak were so numerous that he had to get into a boat due to the people crowding him.
I have written in previous letters that I hoped to not have to mention the pandemic much longer. We’re not totally out of the woods, but we’re starting to see the edge of the trees as the number of cases and deaths has declined dramatically and more people receive the vaccination. Sunday School classes are coming back, and thanks to modern technology, those who cannot attend in person can still watch services being broadcast. There is always much to be thankful for!
In financial news, the sale of Tanglewood is pending but got pushed back a little due to rezoning hearing delays. We expect it to close by the end of June. This will make us debt free! I doubt if many churches can say that. No offense to you bankers our there, but Proverbs 22:7 tells us “…the borrower is slave to the lender.”
Our income is lagging behind a bit. Our expenses for the first quarter of the year were $ 113,703.09 against and income of $107,272.99, a deficit of $6,430.10. To stay on track with our budget, we needed to have $137,439.91. As always, I ask you to be faithful in your giving. Some of you may remember when we had to cut staff and services a few years ago. I can assure you, that is a very unpleasant task. You are a very generous church with your time, gifts, and talents, and I know you will do as you are led to do.
If you have questions or comments, please email me: email@example.com. or call me at 931-561-2575. Our Leadership Board meetings are open to the congregation and our held at 6:00 pm on the second Monday of each month. They are currently virtual, so if you would like to attend, please contact the church office.
Yours in Christ,
