Rev. Jefferson M. Furtado was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is the son of a Methodist pastor and a Christian educator. Growing up as a preacher’s kid, Jefferson and his siblings were deeply involved in church life, which laid the foundation for his calling. In 2001, he moved to the United States for college, graduating from Rust College with a degree in Computer Science. While at Rust, Jefferson was active in music and student leadership, and it was also during this time that he met his wife, Linda. Together, they share three daughters—Sueli, Cintia, and Emma.
Jefferson has served in various ministry roles in the Tennessee-Western Kentucky Conference, including appointments in rural, urban, and suburban churches. He has worked for several United Methodist agencies and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry, focusing on cultural and emotional awareness in clergy and congregations. In his previous role, Jefferson was a Ministry Associate at the conference office, supporting clergy services, lay certification, youth, and children’s ministries.
With a passion for building inclusive communities and fostering spiritual growth, Jefferson continues to lead, preach, and serve while nurturing his love for family, music, and the outdoors.
